According to incubator Rock Health, funding for digital health projects increased by 45% in 2012. It’s a hot sector – and here, in a video series, is attorney Michael Esquivel, partner in law firm Fenwick & West’s Start-ups and Venture Capital Group, to talk about the opportunities:
“Digital health” is what’s happening at the intersection of technology and healthcare, with companies that are asking: how do we engage the end user, the consumer, the patient using mobile and wireless technologies?
Among other things, attorney Esquivel describes the emergence of a new type of start-up in the space: “health oriented but consumer facing” – which leads to more opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors (and added value for consumers)….
Hot companies in digital health? Here’s two: Cardiio (with a heart rate app for iPhone), HealthTap (patients ask physicians questions about their health) … companies that, according to Esquivel, are creating the next evolution in personalized medicine.
